PlayWorks Therapy Health & Illness Policy

The purpose of this policy is to provide guidance as to when you should keep your child home for therapy and/or request a telehealth visit due to illness (if your child is well enough).

If your child is experiencing any illness symptoms, masking is required during therapy sessions and while in the waiting room.

COVID-19: PlayWorks Therapy, Inc. follows all CDC policies in conjunction with the IDPH for COVID-19 exposures to maintain the health of our clients and clinicians. Please refer to the CDC website for the most updated policies with regard to testing, masking, and quarantine period.

Influenza: A child experiencing flu-like symptoms or has been diagnosed with the flu, must be symptom-free for 24 hours prior to returning to therapy.

Antibiotics: A child who has been prescribed antibiotics for a contagious condition will need a minimum of 24 hours on the antibiotic before returning to therapy.

Diarrhea: A child with diarrhea must refrain from therapy until the diarrhea has stopped and normal bowel movements have resumed.

Fever: When a child has a fever above 100.4 degrees orally they must refrain from therapy until they have been fever-free for 24 hours.

Head Lice: A child with head lice must stay home until specific treatment is completed and lice and nits in hair and clothing are absent. If the child is permitted to attend school and their therapy takes place at that location, therapy must be cancelled.

Hand, Foot, and Mouth: A child who has visible blisters must refrain from therapy for two (2) weeks. If the blisters have not closed by the end of the two-week period, the child must refrain from therapy until the blisters have closed completely.

Impetigo, Conjunctivitis, and other Contagious Diseases: These are very contagious conditions and must be treated with antibiotics for at least 24 hours prior to a child returning to therapy.

Runny Nose: Generally, a clear discharge is okay, and a thick yellow-greenish discharge is a sign of a more serious infection and the child must refrain from therapy.

Strep Throat: A child with strep throat must be on antibiotics for at least 24 hours and fever-free for 24 hours before returning to therapy.

Vomiting: A child cannot return to therapy until vomiting has stopped for at least 24 hours.

Other Illness: If your child has other illnesses (ie: influenza, chicken pox, and other contagious viruses), they must refrain from therapy until they are symptom-free and no longer contagious.
