What is Teletherapy?
Teletherapy, sometimes referred to as telehealth, telepractice, or virtual therapy, uses live video conferencing to enable therapists to conduct sessions with your child in your home. It is delivered through an online platform that is accessible via computer, iPad/tablet, or smartphone. The use of teletherapy has increased over the last few weeks as a response to COVID-19; however, teletherapy has been successfully used since the 1990s and is considered a highly-effective, evidenced-based method for therapy delivery.
How do teletherapy sessions work?
Our therapists have been working hard to create fun and engaging materials that adapt well for teletherapy sessions. For our younger clients, teletherapy sessions are led via collaboration between the therapist and the child’s parent(s) and/or caregiver(s). The therapist will make suggestions for activities and resources to be implemented during the session that work to support the child’s goals, while the parent/caregiver facilitates the actual use of the resource (e.g. game, craft, gross motor activity, etc.). Older children may be able to participate in the session independently with the parent and/or caregiver joining in for the last 15 minutes. Parent education will continue to occur during the last 15 minutes of the session.
What services are offered through teletherapy?
PlayWorks Therapy is offering speech-language therapy, feeding therapy, occupational therapy, developmental therapy, and social work/counseling therapy services via our teletherapy platform.
Do you provide teletherapy services for Early Intervention clients?
As of right now, the Illinois Early Intervention program has not yet approved teletherapy services. We are currently awaiting approval and specific guidelines from the State of Illinois. If you are a current Early Intervention client of PlayWorks Therapy and would be interested in supplemental private services during this time, please contact email@example.com for more information.
How do I know if my insurance will cover teletherapy?
Most insurance companies now include coverage for teletherapy sessions. We will verify your benefits prior to your first appointment to let you know your coverage. Insurance companies typically cover teletherapy at the same rate as in-person therapy sessions. Deductibles, co-pays, and co-insurances continue to apply for each session as they would for face-to-face visits. Developmental therapy is not billable to insurance.
Is PlayWorks Therapy accepting new clients via teletherapy?
Yes! We are accepting new clients for all services via teletherapy at this time. If you are interested in receiving more information on teletherapy or beginning teletherapy services for your child, please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org or 773-332-9439.
We want to give a huge thank you to our entire PlayWorks Therapy community for your support during this transition. Both our clients and our therapists have adapted very quickly to the teletherapy model and we have already experienced so many amazing moments in this short time.
